Synopsis for the 1st Story
The secret origin of Bea Bennett is revealed. Born Destiny Alston, she is orphaned at age nine when her mother is assassinated. She spends four years on the streets before being adopted by Ruben Blüd. At eighteen, she journeys off into the world to find her mothers killer "Revenant", her search results in her joining Spyral and spending years as an international spy until she is assigned to watch over "Agent 37", aka Dick Grayson, who is suffering from amnesia and working as a cab driver in Bludhaven under the name "Ric Grayson". Her Spyral handler and mentor, Carmen Navarro, outfits her with the identity of Bea Bennett and tells her Spyral has discovered that KGBeast, the one responsible for Grayson's amnesia, is Revenant.
Bea befriends Ric and eventually falls in love with him. She stops reporting on his movements and Carmen threatens that if Spyral feels she is getting too involved they will pull her out and may kill Ric. However, that night when Bea is about to tell him the truth, Event Leviathan occurs and Spyral goes dark. Bea decides to seize the opportunity for a new life with Ric and leave her past behind. However, Ric's memories gradually return and he forms the Nightwings to once again become a vigilante. When Talon comes to town, Bea calls on her old partner from Spyral Lian Shan, now known as Condor Red, to help him. Afterwards Lian tells Bea that he has discovered her mother was a Spyral agent who went undercover in Ascendek, a tech company which was a front for Checkmate.
Bea is willing to let her quest to avenge her mother go, but Dick Grayson's memories fully return and he breaks up with her. Suddenly they are attacked by KGBeast and Bea goes for a gun, but by the time she retrieves it, Nightwing has already restrained him non-lethally. Having lost her chance for a new start with Ric, Bea breaks in to Bludhaven Private Prison to kill KGBeast, having nothing left but her revenge. KGBeast admits to killing Nicole; however he tells her he is not Revenant, merely a hired gun working for Revevnant. He also reveals that the hit on her mother came from within Spyral rather than Checkmate as she had assumed. Due to Dick's influence, Bea is unable to kill him and leaves.
Months later, as she watches Dick announce the Alfred Pennyworth Foundation, she is approached by Ice Suwannarat, a former Checkmate agent and old rival of hers. Ice tells her that La Agente Funebre has accepted a contract to assassinate Dick and Revenant has been assigned to kill him; but that Revenant also plans to kill Bea at the same time. They are fired on by a sniper from a nearby building and Ice is hit. Bea runs inside and fights Revenant, pulling off her mask to reveal she is Carmen. Carmen admits to working for La Agente Funebre, and that Nicole discovered the truth while undercover in Checkmate. She manages to get the upper hand and is about to kill Bea, but Ice distracts her, allowing Bea to punch her out.
Bea delivers Carmen to the Hold and asks Ruben to imprison her, then accepts her role as Ruben's heir and returns to the Crew of the Crossed Keys. Nicole, revealed to be alive, watches them from the shadows.
