Synopsis for "Nightwing: Beast World"

On the first day of the Beast World event, a big game hunter turned serial murderer known as Apex Ava is imprisoned in Arkham Tower for her crimes. She is terminally ill with Sakutia and expected to die within days. A spore comes into her cell and she breaks off a spoke from her wheelchair and stabs it through the eye. She bites a chunk off the spore and eats it, her eyes glowing green. When an orderly comes in she murders him and escapes.

Three days later, Nightwing calls Jon Kent and tells him that Damian Wayne is missing. They meet up in Gotham and Jon scans for Damian's heartbeat but can't hear it, meaning he is either dead or has changed so that his heartbeat is no longer recognisable. They go to the Iceberg Lounge looking for information, and the Cobblepot siblings tell them about "The Pit", a literally underground arena where Beast-People are forced to fight.

Damian goes to the Pit in disguise while Jon hangs back to avoid being possessed. Damian, transformed into a cat, is set against a bear and is initially viciously beaten. However, just as Superman and Nightwing are about to intervene Apex Ava, who is now green and possesses the power to control the spores, orders him to fight. Damian viciously attacks and overpowers the bear, and is just about to kill it when Jon and Dick both swoop in to stop him. They carry Damian up to the surface and destroy the spore when it leaps out to possess Superman.

Apex Ava and the Pit's customers attempt to evacuate, but Nightwing and Robin collapse the tunnel in and beat them up while Superman carries the arena to the surface. Ava gets away by transforming into a bird, revealing that she has shapeshifting powers like Beast Boy, but the heroes turn the rest of the people in the Pit over to the authorities, and deliver the Beast-People to Gotham Zoo to be held until they can be treated.
