Synopsis for "War for the Mind!"
Bea Bennett's Prodigal Bar, the city of Bludhaven
Bea is worried for Ric: his headaches are getting worse. But the problem is that Ric does not know who could help him, as the last doctor he went to almost manipulated him into becoming an evil assassin. As they talk about the problem, Ric hears sirens coming from nearby and decides to head out to help. He cannot know that, once he left, the Joker descended to have some words with Bea. Ric, out in Bludhaven's streets, finds out all the mess is caused by an escaped criminal, Tusk, and he challenges him to a fight. He also finds a card picturing a joker in the alley he's fighting in, and memories about Batman's nemesis resurface. Can Tusk's get-away from prison be part of Joker's plan? As he beats Tusk down, Ric realizes the criminal was a diversive: Joker wanted to keep him distracted. Was he aiming at Bea, and does he know she is related to him?
Meanwhile, in Bludhaven's hospital, detective Alphonse Sapienza needs to be operated after the Joker almost killed him. Agent Edwards tries to reach him before he loses consciousness, to gain information about who almost killed him, but Sapienza fails to answer. The perpetrator of Al's critic situation is the clown prince of crime, currently charmingly entertaining Bea Bennett while waiting for Ric to return. As Grayson gets back, Joker tells him he's ready to help him become once again the man he should be. The true Richard Grayson. Then, he takes out from his pocket the memory crystal, and uses it to rewrite Dick's memory one more time: this way, he manipulates him into believing he was a circus boy who was thrilled by the deaths of his parents, and who decided to embrace the lessons of a pale-skinned, green-haired man. This will make Batman have a lot of fun.
