Oblivion was an entity born from Kyle Rayner's anger.
History
When Kyle's girlfriend Alex DeWitt was murdered, Kyle unconsciously expelled all his feelings of rage from himself, which took form as Oblivion, a being of energy that eventually manifested itself in the form of one of Kyle's childhood nightmares.
Although Oblivion wreaked havoc all over the galaxy and defeated the JLA,[1], Kyle managed to trap back him inside himself.[2]
