Odysseus, or Ulysses,[1] was a Greek warrior king who fought in the Trojan War.[2] Known for his cunning, he spent years wandering lost at sea until he returned home.
History
Odysseus was considered a brilliant tactitian and he was favorite of the goddess Athena.[3]
The Wooden Horse which hid Greek soldiers during the Siege of Troy was designed by him, and for his perfidy the Gods kept him ten years from his beloved Isle of Ithaca,[4] wandering through ancient seas.[3] Among the many dangers he and his men faced while lost at sea were the sorceress Circe, who transformed men into animals,[5] and the giant, man-eating Cyclops Polyphemus.[1]
He also fought alongside his friend Achilles in the attack on the citadel of Amazonia, home of the Amazons before they moved to Paradise Island, in reprisal for the Amazons' siding with the Trojans.[6]
