Sunburst was an enemy of Aquaman who sought to remake the Persian Empire.

Omar Pairut was a wealthy industrialist from Bakushi, Iran. His father made a fortune in oil, but their family origins were far humbler: he traced it back to a Scythian slave in Alexander the Great's time. When the Greeks conquered Persia, the slave was entrusted with safeguarding an alchemical stone that was the key to unlimited energy, and so he did. Over the centuries, its meaning and purpose was lost to time, but Omar discovered it after seven years of searching. He used the sun stone to transform himself into Sunburst, and vowed to remake the Persian empire.

Realizing that with his powers, his easiest target would be Aquaman, he caught the sea king off-guard and trapped him in a desert. He returned to Bakushi to announce himself the new Alexander, but was met with disbelief and indignity from the crowd. Aquaman, who had been saved by a passing pilot, defeated him by deflecting the Sun Stone's power back at itself with a mirror, destroying it.
