The Omega-Beam was an evolved Zeta-Beam.
History
Envisioning the next step in planetary transportation systems, Sardath began development on a superior iteration of his patented Zeta-Beam technology. Fabricating a new and improved transport system which draws upon the limitless Zero-Point Energy as a power source, the improvement being so staggering that intergalactic adventurer Adam Strange likens this to Zeta Rays as neutron stars are to a pocket flashlight. For through it one could convert matter into energy & back on a cosmic scale to transport it anywhere across reality if need be. For if the Zeta is an intergalactic translocation method, the Omega can potentially transport universal masses across an inter-reality expanse almost instantly. On top of permanently unlike the prior Zeta Beamers when their radioactive half-life expired. Such a device also made for the deadliest WMD ever conceived of due to it's potential of leaving converted galaxian masses as raw power for a devastating energy weapon.
Only two Omega Beam devices were ever constructed by the scientist supreme of Rann and after news of it's design had been leaked to Thanagarian death cultists under the thrall of the Luciphage. Sardath, fearing what such a nightmarish entity would do with his invention, faked the destruction of his home planet by using it to warp a placebo supernova in position of where Rann used to be. Both before wiring the Omega Device he'd left behind to self-destruct and after having one of his clones transport the red dwarf itself in place of the designated star system to cover they're tracks hoping to fool would-be pursuers. In the heat of the final battle between Adam, the Omega Men, Vril Dox II and his L.E.G.I.O.N. forces backed by remnants of the Darkstars. They managed to use the Omega Beam one final time in order to teleport back to the DC Universe, leaving the death cult's deity Starbreaker to languish in the entropy they left behind but were dismayed to find that Rann's star system had been moved into Thanagar's planetary orbit by machination of the Cult's leader; Sh'Ri Valkyr before she was dispatched by Alanna Strange.
