Omega was a monster created by the Miracle Machine from the cumulative hatred of all living things.

History

Brainiac 5 claimed to have spawned Omega into existence during his period of temporary insanity. However, as with other evil actions that Brainiac 5 took credit for at the time, like the murder of An Ryd, it is possible that Pulsar Stargrave -- the villain who had driven Brainiac 5 to madness and manipulated him during that period -- was Omega's true creator. Either way, Brainiac 5 stated that Omega's objective was to descend upon Earth from the reaches of space and make contact with the Miracle Machine, as only Omega contained enough raw, unfettered malice to wish the destruction of the entire universe. The Legion of Super-Heroes tried to stop Omega's advance, to no avail. Ultimately, Brainiac 5 had to be humored by "declaring" him as the ruler of the universe, before a solution was found. Tenzil Kem, the former Legionnaire Matter-Eater Lad, was summoned to use his Bismollian powers to consume the Miracle Machine itself, banishing Omega from existence.^[1]^[2]
