Oswald "Ozy" Mandias was a member of the establishment who ran Mandias Industries. He was said to rival Morgan Edge in business, and rival Bruce Wayne in reclusiveness. As part of a business promotion, he launched himself into space on the space shuttle, but found more than he bargained for.

Mandias Industries was a company that rivalled Galaxy Communications and its owner was industrialist Oswald Mandias. He was harder to schedule an interview than Bruce Wayne, so when Jimmy Olsen was offered the chance, he jumped in the Daily Planet's Flying Newsroom and headed to Mandias's yacht; where Ozy explained his plan before he had Jimmy restrained; so Jimmy could report on it once he'd been freed.

Oswald Mandias had smuggled himself on-board the space shuttle in place of his company's satellite, and intended to make some kind of Public Relations announcement from space. But he was pre-empted; first by Superman; and then by the energetic essence of King Kosmos who possessed him and temporarily enhanced his body to survive in space and battle Superman.

Kosmos used Oswald Mandias as a mask, and Ozy only returned to consciousness after the Sword of Superman had dispelled King Kosmos' spirit. He awoke with Superman holding a sword over him; and the last thing he remembered was getting on board the shuttle, and thought Superman was only there because of Jimmy Olsen's kidnapping. He remembered none of being Kosmos' puppet; despite appearing on television and speaking before Congress.

Mandias' kidnapping of Jimmy — and his public battle with Superman (as King Kosmos) — probably cost him greatly. After he was taken away by Superman, Oswald Mandias did not appear again.
