The Paling are a religious sect formed by a renegade Guardian of the Universe.
History
The guardian felt that, in order to improve the lives of everyone in the universe, they should be stripped of all emotion and filled with the light that gives the Paling their powers. He therefore created a religion based on this central idea, with himself as its leader, the Pale Bishop. He and his sect had come to earth once before, but had been defeated by Black Adam. The Pale Bishop and then been placed in a tomb on Earth.
The Paling once again crossed the void into our galaxy to not only make more converts, but also to find their leader, the Pale Bishop, who was still entombed on Earth. Black Adam and Sinestro went into the Pale Bishop's tomb, and found his body in the burial chamber. There, the power of Sinestro's hatred awoke the Pale Bishop from stasis and he fought the two of them before fleeing from the tomb, regenerating after being hit by Black Adam and being blown apart. The Sinestro Corps members who had been hit by the Paling then awoke and emitted a signal from their home base, Warworld, for the Bishop to follow. Only when the Pale Bishop was destroyed by Sinestro did the other members of the Paling go silent forever.
