Pegasus is an immortal winged horse that sprang from the neck of the decapitated Gorgon Medusa.[1]
History
He was sired by Poseidon and foaled by Medusa, born from Medusa's blood when his mother was decapitated by Perseus.[2]
Pegasus was tamed by the hero Bellerophon with the magic Golden Bridle given by the goddess Athena. Bellerophon rode him into battle against the fire-breathing monster Chimera. The hero later fought the Amazons of old Themyscira and then attempted to fly to Mount Olympus, but Zeus made the horse rear up, throwing him back to earth in disgrace. Pegasus flew to Olympus, where he became the bearer of Zeus's thunderbolts.[3]
Ages passed and an immortal Bellerophon reclaimed Pegasus for himself with the Golden Bridle and gave him to the Greek terrorist Aegeus to help him find the hidden location of Paradise Island.
