Quote1 When I heard that you'd taken on a new sidekick, I knew that he needed to be saved, or you'd eventually do the same to him that you did to me. Quote2

Phantom-One is the adoptive son and former sidekick of Ghost-Maker.

Origins

Around the time when Joker killed Jason Todd Ghost-Maker killed Phantom-One's parents during a robbery. Seeing it as an opportunity to prove that he could succeed where Batman had failed he adopted him under the alias of Kasper Nordlund and decided to train him as his sidekick.

For two years he was trained by Ghost-Maker's old teachers and realized that Ghost-Maker simply did not care about being a father and that he saw Phantom-One only as a project. After his training was complete he and Ghost-Maker worked together for three years but Ghost-Maker kept telling him that he was slowing him down so during one of their battles with Palladium he attacked him in an effort to prove himself but the criminal blew the building in order to deter him. Finding himself trapped under the rubble he asked Ghost-Maker to help him but his master decided instead to help the civilian in danger leaving him for dead.[1] Believing Phantom-One dead Ghost-Maker hunted down Palladium and killed him in revenge. In reality Phantom-One survived and was saved by Black Mist who nursed him back to health and when they saw Ghost-Maker being lauded as a hero in Gotham and with a new sidekick they knew that he had to be stopped.[2]

No More Teachers

Phantom-One started to track down all of Luthor-made Batmen he could find and they started to track down Ghost-Maker teachers, who were all known criminals, to kill them.

Phantom-One fighting Ghost-Maker

Their actions gained the attention of Ghost-Maker's new team, Batman Inc., who started to investigate the murders.[3]

He then kidnapped Clownhunter in a misguided effort to rescue him from Ghost-Maker[4] and told him his story before offering him a chance to join him in his quest to take down Ghost-Maker.[1]

He had Black Mist ambush Ghost-Maker and stab him before Clownhunter to kill their master so that they could be free.[2]

Ghost-Maker than told his side of the story and Clowhunter decided not to kill him which promted Phantom-One to try to kill him himself. This led to a fight that ultimately saw Ghost-Maker victorious, who refused to kill Phantom-One due to having promised Batman not to take any more lives and let him and his team leave so that they could get him medical attention.[5]

Stormwatch

Phantom-One later joined Stormwatch and joined the team in a mission to keep Black Hole from freeing Doctor Huskk. When Black Hole unleashed a time weapon in the prison he and Ravager refused to let the prisoners die but where unable to do anything, lucky for them Core managed to destroy the weapon and they captured Huskk, with the mission being loosely considered a success.[6]
