Apollo is the Greek God of the Sun who has a particular hatred for the Amazons.
History
Like most male gods, Apollo disliked the Amazons who hide during the day to avoid his attention. This dislike grew to hatred after one of the Amazons killed a teenaged slave trader while he was praying in Apollo's temple. Apollo afterwards demanded to Zeus that the Amazons be exterminated for killing the boy.[1] A vicious war ensued that gradually destroyed the Amazons. While this initially gave Apollo, he was visited by Dionysus suggested that the war was actually honouring the Amazons by giving them a glorious death in battle. Dionysus' words took effect and at the end of the massacre Apollo requested that Zeus grant the Amazons immortality rather than death so that they could be imprisoned on a sun drenched island where he could guard them forever.[2]
