The Pioneers of the Uncharted were a team of astronauts sent into space by Niles Caulder to research immortality.
History
In 1955, with funding from the Bureau of Normalcy, Niles Caulder assembled the Pioneers of the Uncharted as part of his Immortus initiative. Fast-tracking the science of space travel, Caulder upgraded the team's system with magic.
Caulder planned for a second team to go into space, even preparing a second ship, but when he lost contact with the crew in the early 1960s he abandoned the project.
On their mission, member Valentina Vostok, also known as "Moscow", came in contact with a negative spirit, becoming fused with the being. She was forced to learn to control her powers and her radiation production for five years.
At another point, the other two members Zip Callahan and Specs died, and their bodies were taken over by alien spores that inhabited them as mindless shells.
In the present, Vostok returned to Earth with her zombie crew members to finally put them to rest. Caulder, too busy tracking down his daughter, did not come to greet them.
