History

Wildstorm Universe

The original version of the Guide was an almanac detailing the "secret history" of the Wildstorm Universe, authored by Elijah Snow and published annually underground every year since 1925.[1] This eventually lead him to found the Planetary Organisation. Old editions were stored for future reference in an impenetrable bunker at the lowest basement level of the Planetary field office in Rio de Janeiro.[2] Axel Brass had a copy of the 1943 edition in his secret headquarters in the Adirondacks.[3]

Snow wrote the final edition after Planetary defeated The Four and opened Randall Dowling's archive, uncovering and recording everything that the Four had tried to hide. Shortly after Snow completed the book and planned to publish and disseminate it around the world for free, the universe was erased in the Flashpoint as their "story" came to an end.

Prime Earth

Jakita Wagner survived the end of their universe and ended up on Earth 0. She kept a journal of her research into the new reality and her attempts to get home, which she also dubbed the "Planetary Guide".[4] When she joined the Outsiders, she began recording the team's adventures in the Guide.[5]

Jakita ultimately attempted to destroy the Multiversal Library by firing a "Cosmic Bullet" into it in the hopes of returning to her reality, and succeeded in erasing all of reality except for herself, the Outsiders and the Library. The Outsiders squared off with Jakita again, and she once again easily overpowered them. However, Lucius challenged her to "do better" and make a better story than the one she was given. Jakita realised that she was no longer the hero of the story and now had to choose whether she would be the villain or the narrator. She wrote a final entry in the Guide, recording that she had fired herself rather than the bullet. She then scraped the Planetary logo off the front cover and wrote "OUTSIDERS" on it, then place the book on the shelf. This made what she had written the truth, restoring reality and sending the Outsiders home, while she remained in the Library.[6]
