Synopsis for "Book One"

Twenty years ago, "Eel" O'Brian and "Woozy" Winks attempted to rob a jewelry store to get a fancy watch for Eel's girlfriend Angel McDunnagh, but were caught by Mammoth City police. Eel continued his life of crime until an industrial accident gave him a plasticized body and he vowed to reform, becoming the superhero Plastic Man. He and Angel also had the son Luke O'Brian.

After several years of crimefighting, Plas joined the Justice League and in an outing against Solaris, he was hit by the villain's solar beams, causing his right arm to melt. When he informs his team members, they brush this off as one of his typical jokes. Detective Chimp takes the matter seriously and refers him to Wayne Enterprises chemist Vera Menlo who theorizes that his body is degrading and Plastic Man is dying.

Taking stock of his life, Plastic Man reached out to his estranged son to tell him that he is afraid the same kind of disintegration could happen to him as well, since they share similar pliable physiology. The talk sours quickly and Luke rushes out, telling his father to leave him and his mother alone.

Dejected, Plastic Man returns to Menlo's office desperate for a solution. She proposes that an intense nuclear reaction could possibly rebind him on a molecular level and Plastic Man vows to create an atomic bomb to save his life.

Meanwhile, the run-off that composed his right hand has reformed itself in the sewers.
