Synopsis for "Book Three"
To solve the problem of his body disintegrating, Plastic Man has abducted rogue Metal Men member Uranium to create a nuclear explosion that can reconstitute him.[1] When he reports this to his colleagues in the Justice League, he also mentions how the other Metal Men were seemingly destroyed, leading his fellow heroes to criticize him. In response, he quits in a rage and heads back to Mammoth City, where Uranium is encased in a lead holding cell, being watched over by Woozy Winks and Vera Menlo. Vera informs Plas that she doesn't have the materials she needs to help him stabilize and he immediately springs into action.
While the rest of the Justice League seems unfazed, Detective Chimp starts his own investigation into what happened to the Metal Men.
Plastic Man reached out to his son Luke, who is staying at Titans Tower with fellow Teen Titan Robin. Father and son take a walk and decide to apprehend Doctor No-Face. When the arrive at No-Face's hide-out, Luke is tackled by Woozy and injected with a serum by Vera to stabilize his polymer form. In reality, Plas set up this intervention fearing that his chemical breakdown is hereditary. Luke is initially shocked, but eventually acquiesces to the plan to expose both Plastic Men to a nuclear fusion reaction on the docks of Mammoth City.
As the conspirators all prepare to head out to ground zero, Detective Chimp appears and confronts Plas, explaining how he is suspicious about the circumstances around the Metal Men being destroyed. As they talk, Dr. No-Face starts his blow torch and the gases coming off of Plastic Man’s degenerating body cause a flash that kills Detective Chimp. They quickly dispose of his corpse and head for the docks, with Luke none the wiser.
