Synopsis for "Book Three"

Plastic Man is disintegrating and is concerned that his son Luke will suffer the same fate, so he has arranged to have both of them exposed to a nuclear explosion from Metal Men member Uranium that will reintegrate their bodies at a molecular level.[1] Father and son debate the merits of the plan and Robin intervenes to extract Luke, but he has a change of heart and sides with his father. The two reminisce while waiting for the explosion and Plas devolves into liquid and he convinces his son to run from the blast: it may not be necessary for him to ensure his molecular stability and Plastic Man was more concerned about proving he was a good father than actually caring about his son.

When the Justice League investigates the matter, Robin paints Luke as an unwilling captive and Luke agrees. The team sends their condolences for Plastic Man’s death and offers him his father’s spot in their roster. Luke declines.

In Mammoth City, Vera Menlo confirms that Luke has no deploymerization and seems fit. To celebrate, he briefly turns to a life of crime, like his father did, to break into a jewelry store and steal a watch for his mother Angel McDunnagh. The two embrace and in the distance, a small portion of Plastic Man’s body that fell off of him early in the disintegration process[2] watches the two affectionately.
