The so-called Plateau of Oblivion was the lair of a would-be world-conqueror who clashed with the Blackhawks and lost.

History

In 1947, while investigating the massacre of a merchant ship's crew, Blackhawk discovered an island in the Pacific Ocean with an enormous ring-shaped plateau on much of the land, surrounding a valley, in which a smoldering volcano was pouring out smoke. Landing on the beach and following a tunnel under the plateau into the interior, Blackhawk found a dense forest where dinosaurs and primitive humanoid giants lived. The giants were enthralled and ruled by a renegade anthropologist, Dr. Mendoza, who had a plan. He would train and discipline these slaves until he had enough of them to invade the civilized world, and conquer it. Blackhawk attacked him, empty handed, but his hench troglodytes subdued and imprisoned him, briefly.

Blackhawk's team followed him to the island, and Andre landed his Grumman XF5F Skyrocket in the inner valley. There was a brief skirmish between several predatory dinosaurs and the Blackhawks' fighter planes, with the reptiles getting the worst of it. The Blackhawks made their way into Mendoza's cavern lair, and Blackhawk's earlier defiance had ignited a rebellious spark in some of the giants. After some brutal fighting, the rebels flung Mendoza off a cliff and declared themselves free.

Just as the Blackhawks were flying away from this island, a volcanic eruption seemingly destroyed the whole place.
