Discovered in 1930, Pluto is the best known of the dwarf planets of the Solar System. It is named after the Roman God of the Underworld, Pluto (aka Hades).
History
Earth-One
- In the late 1950s, three giant alien animals, a giant armadillo like creature, a giant jelly-fish, and a giant fire-breathing bird, were captured by the Challengers of the Unknown, who then turned them over to some aliens from Pluto, who removed these beasts back to Pluto.[1]
Earth-Two
- Early in WWII, German scientist Gootsden managed to strand eight members of the Justice Society on eight different planets. The Spectre was sent to Pluto, where he found a technologically-advanced sub-surface civilization of Andromedans, the "pale ones," led by Preyor, who were at war with the surface-dwelling "furred ones," led by Thermo. The Spectre imposed a peace treaty on both peoples, then returned to Earth.[2]
- The German rocket carrying the Spectre to Pluto crossed an inter-dimensional border along the way, and his adventure actually took place on the Pluto of another universe (not the Pluto of the Earth-Two universe)[3]
- Not long after the end of the Second World War, the King of Pluto, whom the Romans mistakenly thought was the god of the underworld, traveled from his home on planet Pluto to kidnap a co-ed student from Holliday College. The plucky Holliday Girls borrowed a rocketship and went to the rescue, with Wonder Woman along for the ride. After some captures, escapes, and hostage situations, Wonder Woman and her friends all escaped safely back to Earth-Two.[4]
Earth-S
- King Ceezahr Kaan dropped automated blocks of nigh-indestructible neutronium on planets to discover their Mightiest warriors, including an Octopus Man from Neptune, a Metal Man from Titan and an Ant Man from Callisto. After Captain Marvel deposed him, his commander Dalbo Deen was democratically elected as President of Pluto and Ceezahr Kaan was sentenced to almost 2,500 years of hard labor in the Plutonian Salt Mines [5]
- Living Fireballs from Beyond Known Space invaded Pluto Tower, a Neptunian base on the planet, killing one of their researchers and eradicating all known life from the planet. [6]
New Earth
- Brainiac 13 once knocked the dwarf planet out of its orbit during the conflict known as Our Worlds At War.
- The Justice League has a remote laboratory to experiment with new technologies and store weapons and objects that could be a threat to Earth [7].
DC One Million
- In the distant Future, Batman will have a base on Pluto.[8]
- Hades, the son of Vandal Savage, is imprisoned on Pluto.
