History

In 1540 in South America, the golden civilization of the Amdah Indians was wiped out by European invaders. The Amdah high priest directed his minions to seal their treasure room, which then remained concealed for centuries.

In 1940, the Portello government and the surviving Amdah people, represented respectively by General Hortez and Chief Diblo, reached an agreement uniting all Portelloans as one people. Ancient Amdah jewelery financed this arrangement, and commerce was established among the two formerly separate peoples. This happy outcome was almost prevented, and indeed a short skirmish was fought out in the Amdah Hills, due to the machinations of a foreign renegade schemer named Tad Cromer. The roving adventurer known as the Red Gaucho, who was well-known to both sides, was able to capture Cromer, stop the fighting, and enable the negotiations. Cromer was put on trial by the Portello military.
