- You'd already lost her, and you know it, Palmer! I was there when she needed me. I thought you'd accept that. When you left to live with your little alien buddies in the jungle, it was supposed to be forever.
Power of the Atom #11 is an issue of the series Power of the Atom (Volume 1) with a cover date of April, 1989.
Synopsis for "Mightier than the Sword!"
Enrichetta and Ray Palmer examine the Humbug's skin, and find that it is a polymer that contains micro-circuitry. Enricha, however, is more curious about Ray's feelings for Jean.
In Calvin City, Jean finds Paul still awake, and they argue about Jean's possible attraction to Ray. Jean walks away when she realizes that Paul wore the Bio-Belt, and Paul is enraged. When Jean returns to apologize and finds an empty room, she knows where Paul has gone.
Jean, in lingerie, gets in her car, and heads for Ray's at top speed. Pulled over for driving too fast, she tells the State Trooper that her ex-husband the Atom is battling her boyfriend Paul; they both shrunk very small; and they both can travel across the telephone-line. The cop goes to get his breathalyzer.
In Ivy Town, Ray's phone rings, and a miniaturized Paul Hoban bursts from it, swinging for Ray, who finds Paul's jealousy ridiculous since he had "stolen" Jean from him,[1] and it is Ray who had given Paul the Bio-Belt to save Jean.[2]
Not interested in fighting, Ray hides until Paul starts to destroy his lab, and then the battle is on. Both meet on the writing desk and split a pair of scissors -- it is a desktop swordfight. The Atom holds back until he has enough and disarms Paul, nearly killing him. Then Ray gets him to see sense, and they call the local police station and travel the phone line to find Jean waiting there. Paul gives back the Bio-Belt, but holds onto Jean.
