- I don't like people shooting at me!
- — The Atom
Power of the Atom #8 is an issue of the series Power of the Atom (Volume 1) with a cover date of January, 1989.
Synopsis for "Eye of the Storm"
The Atom is in Australia where he hunted Alien Alliance stragglers and rescued the trapped. As the last Khund are captured, Ray thinks about Chronos and whether the truce between them is over.
On the battlefield, Chronos picks up alien weapons to reverse-engineer, and a foolish Thanagarian tries to stop him but withered under Chronos' aging touch. Chronos plants a message on the body for the Atom that, indeed, the truce is over. When the Atom finds the body, he first thinks that it is Hawkman but quickly realizes it is an enemy Thanagarian soldier.
Having had the phone number of Chronos' hideout, the Atom finds Chronos' mansion and sneaks in with no opposition. It is a trap. Chronos gloats and phases seven armored men into reality to battle the Atom. They keep Ray occupied until the mansion is detonated. Chronos comes to confirm the kill, and the Atom almost apprehends him when, to both their surprises, Ray's costume negates Chronos aging touch.
Battle over, Chronos moves to escape, but just then the Gene Bomb explodes...

Notes
- An earlier adventure with Hawkman is mentioned by Ray Palmer, though the specific identity of the Hawks is unknown. Katar only existed in Earth-85 at this time, so Ray Palmer must have been referring to Fel Andar. Something similar to the events of Power of the Atom #4 may have happened, but the exact events of that issue occured in Earth-85, and cannot be what the Atom was referring to in this issue.
- Hawkman is confusing.
- Ivy Town was spelled as Ivytown and was located in New York instead of Connecticut.
- This issue is an Invasion! Aftermath tie-in extra, taking place in between Invasion! #2 and Invasion! #3. After the conclusion of the war in the second issue, these deal with the rest of the story right before the conclusion in the final issue where the Dominators unleash the Gene Bomb.
