Prince Topaz was the youngest child of Lord Topaz, and an ally and friend of Amethyst.

His elder sister, Princess Topaz, was eager to succeed their father, and sought the help of Dark Opal to make it happen. Topaz had always been an ally of Lord Amethyst, and his son shared that sentiment. He was smitten by Princess Amethyst's beauty, even though he only saw her once.

The princess planned to marry him off to Lady Sapphire, who was also in league with Opal. As another realm's consort, he had lost his claim to the Topaz throne. Because Lord Topaz disagreed with the plans, the conspirators came up with the plan to kill him and animate his lifeless body. It failed: the marriage ceremony was never completed, though Princess Topaz could now claim her title as Lady. Prince Topaz left the realm.

He worked alongside Amethyst, and together with the other nobles, defeated Dark Opal. Though he was close to Amethyst, he also became the subject of Lady Turquoise's avances.

Their next threat proved more dififcult for him. Fire Jade briefly enthralled him, and forced him to kill Turquoise, but his love for her won out. It solidified their love. After Fire Jade and later Child and Flaw were defeated, they were married.

With Lady Topaz removed from power and no other heirs present, Prince Topaz became the new Lord Topaz. Turquoise remained the ruler of her realm, though they spoke as one in the Council of Nobles. They had two children, the twins Donal and Wrynn. After Topaz discovered a girl near White Opal's hut, they decided to adopt her and named her Amber.

All went well until Wrynn awoke Mordru, and it possessed him. Though Amethyst stopped the Lord of Chaos, Donal was killed by his brother. The Council of Nobles decided unanimously that Wrynn would be banished to the edge of Gemworld. In his prison, Amethyst ended him and Mordru, and took Amber with her. As she was birthed by Gemworld, she could balance Order and Chaos on Earth. And so, the House of Topaz was left without a heir.
