Princess Emerald was the third and youngest daughter of Lady Emerald.

She became good friends with Amy Winston, and after several adventures, was transported to Earth along with her, with the passage to Gemworld apparently blocked. She posed as Amy's cousin, and shared a room with her.

Though she would temporarily return to Gemworld as a child, she decided to live on Earth until adulthood. She developed psychiatric problems as a result of the change, and married her psychiatrist Michael. He was killed by a demon in Child's employ.

Child took over Emmy's mind and forced her to fight Amethyst. After a brief fight, the Emmy was able to regain control when the Lord of Chaos was ripped from her.

As she was now an adult, the viziers of the Emerald Domain tried to force her into becoming Lady Emerald. She refused, and with Amethyst's help, returned to Earth. She took with her Amber, a child birthed by Gemworld itself, and raised her as her daughter.

Powers

  • Emerald Magic: As someone whose royal line stems from the House of Emerald, Emmy's magic stems from her connection to the familial gemstone.
    • Animal Empathy: Emmy can communicate with the beasts that populate Gemworld, including magical creatures such as faries.[1]. She can also feel the emotions and pain they experience.[2]
      • Empathic Retrocognition: When Emmy used her empathic powers to link to a dangerous, mystically empowered cat, she was able to learn the depths of the cat's history.[3]
    • Clairvoyance: Emmy shares an attunement to Gemworld and its magical mechanations that is rare even among royalty in Gemworld. She expressed the special ability to sense when the magic that fuels the Amethyst bloodline was in turmoil, as a fragment had entered the land Dark Opal ruled.[2] When Dark Opal was defeated, Emmy was among the first to sense the restoration of the natural order of the magical realm she called home.[4]
      • Divination: Emmy's attunement to Gemworld allows her to sense and discern the direction of specific magics, such as when she was able to ascertain Amethyst's whereabouts.[3]
    • Energy Transference: Like the other members of the royal families who aided Amethyst in her battle against Dark Opal, Emmy funneled her magical powers into Citrina and later Amethyst so that the different houses' powers could be combined.[4]
    • Psychokinesis: Emmy can surround small objects with magical energy and move them through the air at will.[3]
    • Enhanced Senses: After noticing an unseen magical presence, Emmy used her magic to make the will-o'-wisp visible so that she could track it.[3]
    • Elemental Control: An innate gift inherited from her mother, Emmy can manipulate the elements around her to varying degrees. Unlike some of the other magics she possesses, which stem from her lineage in the House of Emerald, Emmy's elemental powers in-part come from her connection to nature, which is why she is able to still use her elemental magic on Earth, which has less nascent magic than Gemworld.[5]
      • Chlorokinesis: Emmy's magic allows her to produce plants that grow from the earth and move according to her command, which she has used to entrap a rampaging magically empowered lizard.[2]
      • Pyrokinesis: Emmy possesses the ability to ignite combustible material into magical flames,[3] as well as manipulate existing flames.[5]
      • Hydrokinesis: Emmy can manipulate nearby water, such as when she forced the water within a hose to spray a stream into the face of an enemy.[5]
      • Umbrakinesis: Emmy can conjure a mist of shadow to coat herself and her allies so that they are more difficult to detect in the dark. Bright light disperses this effect.[5]

  • Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
