The Purple Pilgrim was an enemy of Hawkman and Hawkgirl.

At some point in the 17th century, a man identified only as "the purple pilgrim" was accused of sorcery and sentenced to death by Judge Ely Sanders. As he was taken away, the pilgrim swore a vendetta against the family of Ely Sanders.

However, this was not the end - the pilgrim had a family, who left soon after. Also, some portion of his neighbors were disgruntled by the trial, and departed, finding a remote valley not connected to any roads, and building a new township.

Some 300 years later, a descendant of the pilgrim happened upon the valley, and convinced the townsfolk to provide their resources to a two-part criminal plan: the first part, a series of robberies undertaken in 17th century garb, led by himself as the Purple Pilgrim; and the second part, a campaign of kidnapping the descendants of Ely Sanders to the hidden village, and publicly executing them.

His plan ran afoul when his latest victim, Shiera Sanders, turned out to be a confidant of Hawkman, who soon put a stop to his escapades, and convinced the townsfolk to build a road and rejoin the rest of the country.

  • This version of the Purple Pilgrim, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022-2023. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
