Synopsis for "The Question Returns"
The morning following a poker game on a sinking river boat in which Vic Sage (The Question) won four thousand dollars, he finds himself being mugged by one of the other players. Opting not to kick the man's butt, Vic hands over the money. Vic gets a call from Aristotle Rodor telling him that Myra Fermin is in trouble in Hub City. Vic tells Rodor that Myra chose to remain in the city, so she'll just have to deal with it herself. He then saves the remaining passenger from the sinking boat.
Vic sticks out his thumb to hitch a ride and thinks his luck is changing when a car stops. Turns out it is a cop who nabs Vic and tosses him jail for hitchhiking and having no ID. In the next prison cell, sits a man who introduces himself as the emissary of the River Spirit. He tells Vic that Vic has to return to Hub City as the Question. Vic is bailed out of jail by the river boat gambler who invited him to the poker game.
Vic leaves the jail to find it is raining. He reverses his coat and puts on his hat - his Question uniform. Deciding to go with it, he adds the plastic mask. Vic hops on the back of a passing semi-truck to hitch a ride. The truck is stopped by a highwayman who Vic thwarts. It turns out to be the same guy who mugged Vic earlier. Vic retrieves his wallet and the trucker gives him a lift to Hub City.
Vic gets to Hub City and has a rematch with Carlton Fregosi, aka Cathy. He escapes and goes to find Myra. It turns out that Myra has already been saved by her new lover, Billy. Vic leaves.
