Qwewq (New Earth)

My original country is in the cold region of the Vampire Sun. I was born of the eternal fogs, there in Last Country. Neh-Buh-Loh the Huntsmen, am I, master of the Wild Ride. The Neh-Buh-Loh is in fact the adult version of a sentient universe called Qwewq.

History

According to his origins, he was herald from a country in "the cold region of the Vampire Sun" and was "born of the eternal fogs, there in Last Country". Inside Qwewq is a universe that developed without superheroes, a world that mimics our own.

Qwewq was raised in Wonderworld's Omnitropolis, where they had fed it and hoped to allow it to grow to its full potential.^[1] After the destruction of Wonderworld at the hands of Mageddon^[2], the Justice League took Qwewq to their remote lab on Pluto.

Years later, the villain Black Death entered the infant universe and poisoned it, laying the seeds for its eventual alignment with evil. However, the Ultramarine Corps, in a last ditch effort to prevent the universe from becoming evil, placed a flaw inside Qwewq, restricting it from growing and engulfing the universe.^[3]

Eventually, Qwewq evolved and took the name "Nebula Man", becoming a cosmic being "whose touch has the power of 20 atomic bombs." He allied himself with the Sheeda, time traveling predators from the end of time. He served as the personal huntsman of the Sheeda Queen Gloriana Tenebrae.

In the 1940s, the villain known as the Hand used a sonic horn to summon Nebula Man from the far future. The creature was seeking "seven soldiers" who were prophesied to one day defeat his mistress, Gloriana.^[4] The Hand was all too eager to point him in the right direction, thus leading to his confrontation with the original Seven Soldiers of Victory. His actions scattered the Soldiers through time, a fate from which they were later saved by the Justice League and Justice Society. The Nebula Man was defeated when Wing, the sidekick of the Crimson Avenger, sacrificed himself to deliver the final blow.^[5]

Nebula Man then began to go by the name "Neh-Buh-Loh", and had been sent to slay the queen's innocent stepdaughter Rhiannon (a.k.a. Misty Kilgore). However, due to the flaw placed by the Ultramarines years earlier, he was moved by her beauty and symmetry, and allowed the girl to escape. This was Neh-Buh-Loh's secret shame for many years.

The Neh-Buh-Loh later went back in time, working with Gorilla Grodd and announcing the end of the world.^[3] He and Grodd had planned to lure the Justice League into his past self, the infant universe Qwewq, allowing them to take over the defenseless world. Their plan was foiled, and Ne-Buh-Loh escaped back to the future to regroup.

The Hand eventually gave his sonic horn to his nephew Boy Blue. Boy Blue unknowingly used the horn to once again summon Neh-Buh-Loh and the Sheeda to the present, leading to the destruction of an ad-hoc Seven Soldiers team created by the original Vigilante.^[6] This set the stage for the Harrowing of Earth which a new Seven Soldiers attempted to prevent.

Neh-Buh-Loh was finally defeated by Frankenstein, who capitalized on the flaw placed by the Ultramarines, and killed him.^[7]

His powers seem to differ between his classic version and as a celestial hunter.

Energy Projection: His touch has allegedly the power of 20 atomic bombs (but he can choose to turn off the power).
Energy Absorption: He can absorb cosmic energy. ^[8]
Enhanced Senses: He can detect the Nebula Rod, since it emits the same cosmic frequency he does.^[8]
Immortality: "You forgot energy cannot be fully destroyed. Only converted."^[8]
Possession: "I was simply dormant in a human host until I could gather the strength to return." ^[8]

Notes

Neh-Buh-Loh in Seven Soldiers is influenced by several characters in myth and legend. His failed mission to kill his queen's lovely stepdaughter is a direct parallel with the fairy tale of Snow White.
His role as the horned Huntsman of the Sheeda has elements of characters from Celtic mythology such as the horned god Cernunnos and later legends such as the King of the Wild Hunt and Herne the Hunter.
Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-Two era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and no longer apply.
