Raghu Seetharaman, also known as Quiz Kid, was the ward and sidekick to Terry Sloane, the original Mister Terrific.

Early Life

Raghu was orphaned at the age of ten when his parents were killed in a fire. He was sent to an orphanage, where he found and memorised a book of trivia, discovering a lifelong love of knowledge. He competed in trivia competitions throughout high school, earning the nickname "Quiz Kid". The national championships in New York City were attacked by the supervillain Spirit King, who took the contestants and officials hostage. Mister Terrific rescued the attendees and stayed to announce Raghu as the winner. He then challenged Raghu to a series of friendly competitions, and over twelve hours they tied at everything. Raghu was declared the "smartest boy in the world" and became Mister Terrific's sidekick. Quiz Kid helped his mentor solve many seemingly unsolvable crimes, but he disappeared in 1946 while they were investigating the disappearance of Miss America's sidekicks Betsy Ross and Molly Pitcher.[1]

The Thirteen

Raghu was one of thirteen heroes and villains who were erased from history when Barry Allen and Doctor Manhattan altered the timeline. The Time Masters preserved them by placing them in stasis pods in the Time Lab.[1][2] Per Degaton's meddling in the timeline caused the pods to fail and they were reintegrated back into history before the timeline was fully restored.[3]

Lost Children

A "time scavenger" known as The Childminder captured Raghu and many other forgotten sidekicks of Golden Age heroes before they could be fully restored to their proper place in history. They were imprisoned on Orphan Island, an uncharted island in the Pacific Ocean outside the normal flow of time.[1][4] The sidekicks managed to defeat the Childminder and her employer, an adult version of Corky Baxter, with the help of Stargirl, Red Arrow and Hourman. As they could not be returned to their proper places in time, Hourman transported them to the present, where they became known as the Young Justice Society.[5]

The Justice Society attempted to find homes for the time-displaced young heroes. As Terry Sloane was long dead by 2023 Michael Holt, the new Mister Terrific, allowed Raghu to stay with him.[6] Raghu quickly got up to speed with the advances in science and technology since his time, and was impressed by everything the JSA had achieved over the intervening eighty years. However, he also felt that its scope had become too broad and was focused on major issues to the exclusion of helping everyday people with their problems. He created a special T-Sphere, which he dubbed a "Q-Sphere", to seek out people in need and suggested that they reopen the Fair Play Club.[7]

Raghu quickly became best friends with Holt's equally brilliant son Jeffrey Holt, aka Fairplay, who had also recently returned to the world after his own long-term kidnapping.[8]
