Ragman: Cry of the Dead (Volume 1) with a cover date of January, 1994.
Synopsis for "Cheval Blanc!!"
The Golem battles Marinette, still in possession of Zipporah. Rory Regan, possessed by the Loa Ogoun, battles the evil Ragman, possessed by the souls of children who have died from violence and neglect and are fueling Marinette. The battle goes against Rory, but he reveals to Ogoun that he has knowledge that can turn the tide of battle. Ogoun allows Rory to take control. Rory knows that the Suit of Souls fears fire. He uses flames to attack the evil Ragman. The souls of the children begin to flee the Suit of Souls. Marinette believes she can still use the children's souls. She makes the souls possess the children of New Orleans and attack Rory, Oungan Legba, Mambo Jean Lizotte and their allies. While this is happening, the Voodoo practitioners commence a ritual that draws the evil souls back into the Suit of Souls. However, the possessed children are still a threat. Rory, now back in possession of the Suit of Souls, takes one of the children in his arms and embraces him with love and compassion, giving the soul what it never had in life. This causes the child to leave this plane, at peace. The others begin to embrace the children in the same way, thus allowing the other souls to leave this plane, at peace. This weakens Marinette to the extent that Zipporah's consciousness surfaces. She asks Rory to take her soul into the Suit of Souls, thus destroying Marinette's link to this plane. He does so sadly, ending the threat.
Later, Lizotte and Legba meet with the Golem. As they talk, the Golem inadvertently erases the Word of Truth from his forehead, which should have returned him to an inanimate form. The Golem states that, apparently, it is not so easy to wipe out the truth. He retreats to the swamps where he will be looked after by Lizotte.
