Ragnar is a member of the Red Lantern Corps.
History
Ragnar was the younger brother of Iolande, heir to the throne of their planet, Betrassus. He was in awe of the planet's Green Lantern, Dulok, and dreamed of receiving the chance to join the Corps himself. When he was told that a new Green Lantern was appointed by the current Lantern dying and their ring choosing a worthy successor, Ragnar killed Dulok under the expectation that his ring would choose Ragnar as its new wielder. This did not yield results, and Ragnar tried to repeat his plan by poisoning Kilowog. This time the ring seemed to choose Ragnar as its new wielder, and he gleefully announced what he'd done, seeming completely unaware that the murders he'd committed proved Ragnar was not the great hero he thought he was destined to be. When Kilowog revealed he was alive, and it had all been a trick to get the killer to reveal himself, Ragnar tried to flee, but was captured and imprisoned.[1]
Later the Red Lantern Corps invaded Betrassus, and a red power ring sought out Ragnar over his rage at the perceived injustice of his fate. With his new power and reinforcements from the Red Lanterns, Ragnar seized the throne of Betrassus. Ragnar joined the battle to keep Hal Jordan and his allies from destroying a doomsday weapon the Red Lanterns had placed, but was forced to flee the planet with his teammates when a Blue Lantern Power Battery was activated, giving the Green Lanterns an overwhelming power boost.[2]
