- — The Ray src
Raymond Terrill is The Ray, a light-powered superhero and former member of the Justice League of America.
History
Origins and Early Adventures
Ray Terrill experienced an unusual childhood: he was kept from ever leaving his house or being exposed to any light. His mother, Nadine, claimed that he was allergic to light, even a small amount of exposure to which could prove fatal. In reality, his "allergy" was the power to metabolize, control and transform into light, an ability originating with his late father. Following the injury of his sole friend Caden Zapote when his abilities were activated by the flash of a camera, he grew further isolated and was kept from even minimal light sources such as birthday candles, also having to keep the light of his television low and watch it only for an hour at a time.[2]
As he grew older, Ray was tired of being kept in the house and in the dark. At eighteen,[3] he decided one night to sneak out of the house and met a couple of teenagers. As he was talking to them he then started to illuminate; the exposure to the various lights at night caused his powers to manifest and the teens got frightened and ran off. He turned invisible and spent four years in that stat, wandering around the city until one day seeing a poster of Zapote, now a candidate running for mayor of Vanity, Oregon. Ray, still invisible, watched Caden give his speech. An angry man within his audience, actually a member of the Sons of Liberty, disagreed with Zapote's message of change and attacked him. Turning himself visible as a being made of light, Ray fought with the attacker, turning him invisible and frightening him into submission before restoring him.[2]
Labeled "the Ray" by the media, he acted as the guardian of Vanity,[2] and joined the superhero team the Justice League, with whom he helped to free the hero Bloodwynd from the Blood Gem in which he had been imprisoned.[4] With his fellow heroes, he kept the Parallax-influenced Hal Jordan from reshaping history and watched the restored timeline unfold from outside the timestream before returning to his native era.[5] The Ray also served with another superhero team, the Freedom Fighters, who were slaughtered by the Secret Society of Super-Villains,[6] and he witnessed the death of Superboy.[7]
Justice League of America
He was recruited into Batman's new Justice League of America, which included the Atom, Vixen, Black Canary, Killer Frost and Lobo.[8]

- Light Processing: He can also produce light from his own body which powers light projection and flight.[2]
- Flight: Ray has the ability to fly, without artificial means. Require only minimum power and subliminal thought.[2]
- Light Rays: The ability to project rays, beams, and bolts of destructive light. Require only minimum power and subliminal thought.[2]
- Hard Light Constructs: A power to create constructs out of pure light similar to a Green Lantern's constructs. It requires only minimum power and subliminal thought. Larger and more complicated manipulations of energy and matter require extended meditation and more power.[2]
- Illusions: Ray can 'bend' light to create illusions.[2]
- Invisibility: The ability to 'bend' light around himself or others, rendering him (or others) invisible to the naked eye.[2]
