Quote1 Look, Chang, this note indicates it was carried by a bird we left at the Doctor's -- He would only let it fly unless the Japs attacked! Quote2
Red McGraw, the Dragon src

During World War II, Sgt. "Red" McGraw, calling himself the Dragon, created problems for the Japanese occupiers of China.

Sergeant Red McGraw was the only U.S. Marine to escape from the Japanese take-over of Shanghai, in December 1941. For the next two years, he and a growing band of Chinese marauders raided Japanese positions all across China.

By 1943, Red McGraw aka "the Dragon" and his troop of stubborn Chinese guerrillas had ranged through the Honan Valley, hitting at and running from the plundering Japanese occupiers. Local Chinese people would sometimes assist the guerrillas, using semaphore flags to relay messages across the countryside.

McGraw's 2nd-in-command, Chang, was larger and stronger than everyone around him including Japanese soldiers. He was once captured and severely tortured by the Japanese.[1]

Towards the end of the land war in China, the Dragon and Chang and his band manned a patrol boat in the Yellow Sea, where they are known to have destroyed three Japanese submarines.[2]
