Richard Dragon, Kung-Fu Fighter (Volume 1) with a cover date of December, 1977.
Synopsis for "The Secret of the Bronze Tiger"
Just as Ben Turner is having his final showdown in the Arctic with Lewis; who he blames for the death of Ben's fiance; a terrific explosion rocks the headquarters of Professor Ojo. No bodies from either side have been recovered.
Blaming himself for Turner's death, Richard Dragon retreats into drink and self-pity for the first time in his life. More on a dare than on any sense of concern for her partner, Lady Shiva informs Dragon of an illegal martial arts tournament where all fights are to the death and disreputable people are coming from all over the globe to compete in it---including from engineered prison escapes.
His conscience aroused, Dragon enters the tournament under an assumed name. He defeats his opponent without killing him, drawing suspicious looks. Then a sudden police raid touches off a stampede.
Dragon unmasks the mysterious referee of the contests, Bronze Tiger, as
Ben Turner; with a hypnotized glaze in his eyes. Dragon is too stunned to
stop his friend's escape. The Bronze Tiger began a new destiny far apart from Richard Dragon.
