Richard Grayson is one of the Robins in service to the Bat-Prince.

Richard and the other Robins lived on the streets of the city outside the Castle of El. They survived through pickpocketing and theft, and followed a strict code to never hurt anyone and only steal from people who could afford it. On All Hallows Eve, they robbed two men in costume who turned out to be Bat-Prince and Prince Kal-El. They scattered to avoid capture and Bat-Prince chased after Richard. He managed to stay ahead of Bruce thanks to his acrobatic skill and almost got away, but stopped fleeing to save a boy from being run over with a cart, even though this allowed Bruce to catch him. Meanwhile Kal-El caught the other Robins single-handedly.

Bruce initially planned to throw the Robins in prison, believing they would inevitably grow to become bandits and murderers, but Kal-El encouraged Bruce to give them a chance. Realising their skills would be useful, Bruce recruited the Robins instead of arrest them to stop them going further down the criminal path they were on.[1] Richard and the others acted as scouts and spies, tracking down people with magic in the kingdom.[2]

Five years later, Bruce went on a mission to the Lands of Magnus to retrieve a fallen star. He returned safely but then disappeared, and so the Robins and the master-at-arms Alfred ranged out to search for him. Meanwhile, Queen Anissa of the Kingdom of the Storms declared war on the Lands of El in revenge for her father's apparent murder by Zala Jor-El.[3][4]

Richard tracked Bruce to the Kent Farm, where he was swiftly found and captured by Kory; one of a band of fugitive youths possessing abnormal powers known as the Titans. As he had been taught that magic was evil, Richard believed that the Titans were demons who were holding Bruce prisoner. However, Bruce had been saved from death by the Titans and come to realise that not everyone who was different was a monster. He told Richard that the Titans were not demons and apologised to them. Before they could speak more the farmhouse was suddenly attacked by the League of Shades. Bruce and the Kents attempted to fight off the League and Etrigan, but Bruce was overpowered by the demon and so Richard and the Titans joined the fight.

They successfully drove the League away, and during the fight Bruce revealed that he had powers like the Kryptonians. After the assassins departed, Richard told Bruce about the brewing war and that they needed to return to the palace. Bruce refused, saying he did not belong there; but Richard told him that he was a prince of he kingdom, and as far as he and many others were concerned, Bruce was the rightful king.[5]
