Dick Rory was a sergeant in the United States Army attached to the Green Berets during the Vietnam War.

In 1967 his team was investigating the disappearance of a number of American soldiers. In the process he encountered Nate Heywood and Mick Rory of the Legends who were investigating a temporal anomaly in the same area.[1] This caused Mick considerable consternation since, as a teen, he had killed Dick, his father, when he burned down his family's home in 1990. Mick elaborated to Nick that he felt no remorse for that act as his father had abused him severely.[2]

Sergeant Rory was unaware of this and worked with the Legends who passed themselves of as working for the Central Intelligence Agency. As they worked together, they were confronted by a squad comprised of both American and Viet Con soldier. During this encounter he saved Mick's life and took to calling the missing American soldiers "traitors."

When Nate and Mick are passed the location of the camp the "traitors" are using, Sergeant Rory planned to attack it with his team. Mick joined him, knocking Nate unconscious.

Once the camp is taken, Sergeant Rory has his troops round up everyone, the deserters, Vietnamese civilians, Viet Cong, and the Legends. He intended to execute all of them. Mick intercedes, talking him down.[1]
