Synopsis for "Where the Road Ends"

Tim recovers from the fall after his board's wheel was shot by the men that kidnapped Kip Kettering and he is surrounded by a bunch of strangers. Tim stands up and before they could search for an ID on his bag, he grabbs it and starts running back to Brentwood Academy.

When he finally reaches the school, Tim goes back to Kip's room and finds Buzz, Wes and Miss Bigelow discussing the situation. Tim tells them what happened and then Buzz explains that the kidnappers took the wrong computer, because Kip was working with Buzz's computer at the time of the kidnapping. Tim checks Kip's computer and discovers that Kip has been online gambling and that it might be the reason for his abduction. At that moment the police arrive and they are distracted by all the people giving details about the kidnappers and in the meantime, Tim copied the information he needs in a floppy disk and before the police could get to him, he is already gone.

Tim goes to Oracle's Watchtower and finds Barbara along with Black Canary and Stephanie Brown. Barbara is investigating Devlin Davenport as a suspect of the murder of Vesper Fairchild and the framing of Bruce Wayne. She is getting information from him with Alfred's help, as he is playing the role of an undercover upstanding citizen in a private club for men. As it turns out, Davenport knows that Bruce is terrible at the shooting range and because some police officers, friends of him, have told him that Vesper was shot from a considerable distance, he doesn't believe that Bruce Wayne killed Vesper and that he is being framed, but he doesn't have a clue as to who might be behind it all.

In the meantime, Robin borrows one of Barbara's computers and starts looking into the Online Casino Kip has been gambling on. Steph is eager to help Tim, and once he discovers the location of the company, they decide to take them down together.

Kip is being held tied to a chair and blindfolded and a man talks to him and reveals that they kidnapped him in order to learn the secret to Kip's winning streak. They believe that Kip is a hacker and that he has disturbed their system, allowing him to always win; but Kip tells him that he just used logic and math in order to get the most wins by chance. The man doesn't believe in him and prepares to shoot Kip, but he is stopped by the timely arrival of Robin and Spoiler, who knock the man down and tie him without rescuing Kip.

Moments later, Kis is rescued by the police, who discovered the base of operations of the gamblers by a call from Tim Drake. At Brentwood, everybody is celebrating the rescuing of Kip and the bravery of Tim, when Wes tells Tim that his father is on the phone. Mr. Drake informs Tim of the bad news and when they are done talking Tim, who is still in shock, explains Wes that his father is broke.

This comic issue is a part of the Bruce Wayne: Murderer? and Bruce Wayne: Fugitive story that went through every Batman Family title in 2002. Bruce Wayne was framed for the murder of his love interest Vesper Fairchild and forced to go on the run from the law so he could prove his innocence. This adventure almost completely compromised his identity from the inside.
