Rodney was a wooden soldier who Geppetto made flesh and blood.
History
A Lieutenant in the Seventh Horde, where he was second in command of the Fell Company, he was part of the conquering army in the Arabian Realms in the Homelands. His skill on the battlefield saw many Fables die by his sword. During his occupation of an Arabian stronghold, which the Horde had renamed Fort Walder, Rodney was attacked by a manticore that bit into his leg. When he went to see the woodcarver to get a replacement, he met June. They soon fell in love.
Though he studied up on mating rituals of the flesh, because both their bodies were made of wood, even kissing did not create the desired feeling they wanted. Not knowing what else to do, Rodney wrote a letter directly to Geppetto, asking for him and June to be turned into real people, just like Pinocchio. But his captain got ahold of the letter and reprimanded him for his stupidity. Rodney spent the rest of the night confined to his quarters.
But the captain allowed him and June to go meet Geppetto in person, rather than send a letter which could be intercepted by the enemy. They cross many miles and pass through several gateways until they arrive at the Imperial City home world. From there, Rodney protects June from many savage forest beasts until they reach Geppetto's cottage.
Geppetto gives Rodney and June the elixir that turns them into flesh and blood man and woman. They were married, and finally got to do all the things that other couples were known for. In return, they are sent to New York City, in the mundane world, to act as spies for the empire. Rodney gets a job as a butcher in an Italian deli, while they keep an eye on the movements and comings and goings within Fabletown. Usually, Rodney liked to take care of any assassination command that the Imperial City sends to them, so that June, who was pregnant with their child, wouldn't have to.
