Synopsis for "Chapter Twelve"

The detective has come to visit Governor Gavin Turley to show him the tape recorder which holds a confession tape that is alleged that President Robert Redford was involved in Turley's assassination attempt. After being brought into Turley's office, the governor himself is busy doing some paperwork before he can hear the detective's discovery. The detective request for some bottle of beers just for the occasion in which Turley obliges.

After the drinks are brought in, Turley and his aide Alan congratulate the detective for his outstanding work for the last two months in his investigation and hears what he has learned. The detective gives his brief that Turley's would-be assassins were "broken people with sad intentions" who needed help, and claiming that whatever their reasons and motivations were are not important and doesn't make any much sense. He continues that the Redford Campaign or their affiliates, possibly including the President himself, found the pair and used them in their conspiracy. He has evidence, which include Diane Condor's confession tape, to verify his discovery. Turley then want to hear from the tape.

The detective sets the tape recorder on the table before he suddenly breaks his beer bottle and using its jagged end to fatally slice through Turley's throat and plunging it into Alan's neck. The detective then plays the recorder in which it only plays a loud 45 minutes recording of Turley's campaign speech. The detective cleans the blood off from his hands and wearing his coat to conceal the blood on his shirt before exiting the office. He then lies to the security guard, Jacobs, that his employer has got his answers and that he is currently practicing one of his speeches to get ready for an announcement. Jacobs, who is none the wiser, buys into the detective's deception when he hears Turley's recorded speech from behind the doors and deciding not to disturb the governor. He then lets the detective go.

Meanwhile, the news reports that President Redford had flew to Vietnam for a campaign event where he is beloved by the Vietnamese people for bringing peace and prosperity to their country. Thus, Vietnam is a safe state that will ensure Redford to win in the election. It is also the reason why Turley resorted to falsely incriminate Redford.

The detective drives across Los Angeles before stopping at a movie theater to see a midnight showing of Pontius Pirate: War of the West Indies.
