Rosibel Rivera, also known as Ladybug, was the sidekick to Red Bee.

Early Life

Rosibel and her family emigrated to the United States of America from El Salvador when she was 14. As she had no friends in her new country she spent the summer working on her family's honey farm, the Big Bee Ranch. Local prosecutor Rick Raleigh regularly visited the farm because, unbeknownst to her, Rosi's father was training a swarm of bees to help Rick fight crime as the Red Bee. Rosibel became a huge fan of the Red Bee when he saved her family from gangsters who were extorting them for protection money and the corrupt police chief who was helping them.

Her parents let Red Bee use the farm as a base and one day Rosi stumbled across his hideout. She was accidentally exposed to a device built by Red Bee's nemesis Professor Pollen, that shrank her down to the size of a ladybug. Red Bee was able to return her to normal while retaining the ability to shrink at will. He gave her a wingsuit that allowed her to fly and she became his sidekick Ladybug, also becoming good friends with his trained bee Michael.[1] However, after only a few adventures she disappeared on February 12, 1944 and all memory of her was erased.[2]

The Thirteen

Rosibel was one of thirteen heroes and villains who were erased from history when Barry Allen and Doctor Manhattan altered the timeline. The Time Masters preserved them by placing them in stasis pods in the Time Lab.[1][3] Per Degaton's meddling in the timeline caused the pods to fail and they were reintegrated back into history before the timeline was fully restored.[4]

Lost Children

A "time scavenger" known as The Childminder captured Rosibel and many other forgotten sidekicks of Golden Age heroes before they could be fully restored to their proper place in history. They were imprisoned on Orphan Island, an uncharted island in the Pacific Ocean outside the normal flow of time.[1][5] The sidekicks managed to defeat the Childminder and her employer, an adult version of Corky Baxter, with the help of Stargirl, Red Arrow and Hourman. As they could not be returned to their proper places in time, Hourman transported them to the present, where they became known as the Young Justice Society.[6]

The Justice Society attempted to find homes for the time-displaced young heroes. Although her parents and Red Bee were long dead, Red Bee's now elderly granddaughter Rachel Raleigh still lived on the Big Bee Ranch and offered to take her in. Stargirl accompanied Rosibel back to the farm, but when she arrived she found that it was changed beyond recognition. She broke down crying, believing that there had been no point in coming back if her parents were gone and would never know what had happened to her. However, to her surprise she discovered that Michael was still alive, and had been waiting all those years for her to return.[2]

Phantom Lady volunteered to mentor Rosibel and Cherry Bomb and introduced them to the modern version of the Freedom Fighters.[7]
