Roy Lincoln was a chemist who became the hero the Human Bomb.

Roy Lincoln swallowed a sample of explosive 27QRX to keep it away from the Nazis. The explosive power concentrated in his hands, and now he explodes everything that he touches.[1]

Freedom Fighters

Shortly after his powers emerged, Roy developed a special suit made of fibro-wax which afforded him greater control over his abilities. Calling himself the Human Bomb, he became an adventurer and eventually a member of both the Freedom Fighters and the All-Star Squadron, operating first on Earth-Two and later on both Earth-X and Earth-One.

Powers

  • Decelerated Aging: Although he has been active since the early days of World War II, Roy Lincoln has aged at a much slower rate than the average human being. One theory is that the persistent presence of the enigmatic Uncle Sam might have something to do with Roy's decelerated aging.[2]
  • Thermal-Blast: Roy Lincoln can generate and release tremendous blasts of thermal energy from his hands. Prolonged physical contact from Roy's hands will cause combustible materials to explode. In order to control the intensity of his powers, Lincoln wears a pair of gloves constructed out of fibro-wax. After migrating to Earth-One after bringing peace to Earth-X, Human Bomb's powers increased, allowing him to create explosions from any part of his body. Doll Man (Darrel Dane) created a power inhibitor that allows Roy to live outside of his protective suit without causing unwanted explosions.

Abilities

  • Chemistry: Having studied under his father since a young age, Roy Lincoln is an expert in the scientific field of chemistry.
  • Demolitions: After working with his father, as well as his own studies of his powers, Roy developed a keen knowledge of explosives and their applications.
  • Hand-to-Hand Combat (Basic)

Equipment

  • Human Bomb Suit: The Human Bomb wears a full body suit (including hood and gloves) that covers 100% of his body. Made out of a substance called fibro-wax, the suits helps Roy to regulate his often unstable combustive powers.

  • The Freedom Fighters were relocated to a parallel world, one called "Earth-X", where Nazi Germany had won World War II. The team was featured in its own series for 15 issues (1976–1978), in which it temporarily left Earth-X for "Earth-One" (where most DC titles are set).
  • In 1981, some Quality Characters became recurring guest-stars of All-Star Squadron, a superhero-team title set on "Earth-Two", the locale for DC's WWII-era superheroes, and at a time prior to when the Freedom Fighters were supposed to have left for Earth-X. They later appeared with the rest of DC's superheroes in Crisis on Infinite Earths, a story that was intended to eliminate the confusing histories that DC had attached to its characters by retroactively merging the various parallel worlds into one. The Freedom Fighters became a mere splinter group of the All-Star Squadron.
