History

In the early 1900s, curator Doctor John Hathaway stole one of the museum's most notable possessions - the Magdalene Grimoire. He brought it to famed occultist Roderick Burgess in Wych Cross, England in the hopes that he could use it to resurrect his dead son Edmund, whose destroyer was sunken in the war. Burgess failed in this endeavor and Hathaway grew despondent. In 1920, he took his own life by stabbing himself with a dagger from one of the museum's collections.
