Rudolph "Rudy" Jones was an inmate at Arkham Asylum on The World of the Knight. He was transformed into an Omni-Battery by Warden Luthor.
History
Rudy's cellmates in Arkham were The Joker and The Penguin. They were held in Cellblock A, and across the corridor from them was Cellblock B, where they could see duplicates of themselves being subjected to hideous medical experiments by the Warden. The Spider Lady, who believed the Warden was part of a cross-dimensional secret society responsible for the world's ills, learned of this. She tried to break the three out of prison so they could tell their story, but Batman and Robin foiled their escape and they were returned to Arkham.[1]
The Spider Lady was correct, and eventually Batman and a hero from another world called Superman were able to defeat the society and arrest it's members in the other dimension, but Warden Luthor remained at large. As he no longer had access to test subjects from the parallel reality, Luthor began experimenting on his own inmates, granting them additional power and controlling their minds. He used the inmates to take over Metropolis, which he renamed Lexopolis, and transformed Jones into a living perpetual energy source called an Omni-Battery to provide power to the city. The Spider Lady began an underground resistance against the Warden, which included Rudy's wife Alexandra and his son Ray.
Superman crossed over from his own reality to deal with Luthor. Superman fought through the army of inmates and attempted to destroy the Omni-Battery, but could not when he realised it was a living person. Luthor took over Rudy's mind and forced him to attack Superman and throw him off the roof they were standing on. Superman was recovered by the Spider Lady and met with Alexandra and Ray. He took them back to Rudy and they helped him break his mind control. He and Superman defeated Luthor and handed him over to the police.[2]
