Salvatore "Boss" Maroni was the leader of the Maroni Crime Family in Bludhaven and a key lieutenant of Blockbuster.
History
Maroni sheltered Tony Zucco's ex-wife and daughter Melinda after their divorce. Blockbuster eventually installed Melinda as Mayor of Bludhaven, much to Sal's excitement as he considered her one of them. He was unaware that Melinda was secretly an FBI informant and not Zucco's biological daughter.[1]
Maroni was later arrested along with most of Blockbuster's associates in a massive crackdown on Bludhaven's organised crime by the superheroes and the new BPD Commissioner Maggie Swayer.[2] Maroni expected to be released quickly, and while in custody flaunted his power over the BPD by having an officer bring him cocktails in the interrogation room. However, Sawyer told him that Blockbuster was dead and they had recovered the files held by the crooked former Commissioner Maclean which proved that Maroni and Blockbuster had had multiple potential rivals in Bludhaven's crime families secretly assassinated. Cops on the other families' payrolls leaked the information to them, and Maroni agreed to testify in exchange for protection.[3] With his information, Sawyer and the BPD were able to dismantle the crime families and their network of corrupt city officials.[4]

- Sal Maroni was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, first appearing in Detective Comics #66. However, in the rebooted Prime Earth continuity his first appearance as part of the DC Universe is in Kyle Higgins and Will Conrad's New 52 Nightwing series.
