Sanderson "Sandy" Hawkins was the ward of original Sandman Wesley Dodds and the nephew of Dodds' lifelong partner, Dian Belmont. Hawkins fought crime alongside Dodds as Sandy the Golden Boy until a bizarre accident which ultimately left him with the ability to transform himself into a pure silicon or sand form. In his adulthood, Hawkins has been a member of the Justice Society under the identities Sand and the Sandman. Sandy the Golden Boy was created by Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris, first appearing in Adventure Comics #69 (1941).
