Sarah was the self-professed "rebound girl" for the heartbroken Bigby Rawlins.
History
She came across Bigby at his lowest point and helped him try to get over the woman who he left behind. They lived together in a log cabin to which she'd bring supplies from town. At some point she fell in love with him, and they became a couple. Most of his past was a mystery, she only knew that he had kids with a woman he loved dearly but couldn't see for some reason. She never asked him any questions about it.
Sarah knew Bigby was leaving her when the stranger showed up in their home one day. She was understandably heartbroken, but she accepted it, always knowing she was only a temporary replacement for his heart. Sarah returned to town afterwards, to start over again, retiring from the wilderness life.
