Synopsis for "Last Rites"
Carter and Emma have arrived on Rome and go to a church to meet with Reverend Thomas, a Roman Catholic priest who is friends with Emma's father. Carter shows Reverend Thomas the some scrolls, saying that they picture a connection between the Heavens and the Earth. If they can locate the origins of the scrolls, they can map out the earliest origins of celestial life. However, Reverend Thomas disagrees with Carter's ideas, believing them to be blasphemy. He summons St. Bastion, a religious zealot, to destroy them.
As Carter puts on his Hawkman armor, Emma takes the scrolls and flees. While Hawkman and St. Bastion fight, Emma is pursued by Reverend Thomas, who beats her and tries to burn the scrolls with candles. Emma subdues him and recovers the scrolls, but the candles start a fire. Hawkman barely defeats St. Bastion and escapes with Emma to a nearby rooftop.
Hawkman and Emma discuss their next move, and Hawkman says that he kept the original scrolls locked away while the ones with them are copies. Suddenly, Hawkman takes a bullet to the chest. The assailant is revealed to be Pike. However, the Nth Metal has taken most of the impact and Hawkman is ready for anothe battle.
