Savitar is the self-declared god of speed. As a Speed Force conduit, he is an enemy of the Flash.

A Cold War pilot for a third-world nation, the man who would become known as Savitar was to test a supersonic fighter jet. As he reached top speed, his plane was struck by what appeared to be lightning, and he went down in hostile territory. Discovering he could defeat the enemy by moving at super-speed, he became obsessed with speed, naming himself after Savitar, Hindu for "god of motion", and dedicating his life to unlocking its secrets. As Savitar studied, he discovered new powers that no other living speedster has mastered. He can protect himself in a null-inertia force field, give speed and kinetic energy to objects or people, even those in a rest state, and could also heal his own injuries almost instantly.

Savitar's obsession gained followers, and he became the leader of a cult. In search of more knowledge, he sought out the only super-speed hero operating at the time: Johnny Quick. This encounter became a battle, the tide of which was turned with the arrival of Max Mercury, who led Savitar toward the Speed Force, but caused him to bounce off.

Savitar returned decades later, to discover that his followers, the Thunderbolt Agents, had become a large cult in his absence. Making his headquarters in a fortress in Tibet, he recruited the speedster known as Lady Flash. He then used her powers as a catalyst to strip most of Earth's speedsters of their link to the Speed Force, transferring their speed to the Thunderbolt Agents. He sent a few of these agents to attack Wally West. When these proved ineffectual, he sent more to kill the other speedsters: Impulse, Jay Garrick, Johnny and Jesse Quick, XS and Max Mercury.

Fortunately, Wally's direct link to the Speed Force prevented Savitar from stealing his speed, and a coalition of all the speedsters he had tried to kill, foiled his plans. Hell-bent on at least destroying Flash's world in retribution, he led the Flash on a worldwide race of destruction, until Flash chose to give Savitar what he wanted: union with the Speed Force. His earlier encounter had shown him that the others who had arrived before would deal with Savitar as they saw fit.

Savitar was able to escape from the Speed Force. He was run down by the recently returned to life Barry Allen; however, when Barry touches him, Savitar disintegrates, leaving only a pile of bones.

Superman Prime Earth 0002
This history is continued in The New 52 at Savitar (Prime Earth).
The DC Universe was rebooted in 2011 as part of the Flashpoint event. This was an attempt to simplify continuity, and make DC Comics more accessible to new readers. Prior to this, mainstream comics took place in New Earth continuity since the Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1985. The continuity established following Flashpoint is Prime Earth.

  • Speed Force Conduit: After flying a supersonic fighter jet at top speed, Savitar was struck by a mysterious lightning. This granted him a connection to the Speed Force, a cosmic force that pushes time and space forward. Being a Speed Force Conduit radically accelerates and enhances all aspects of Savitar's being.[1] According to Wally, Savitar's smarter than Zoom when it comes to using the Speed Force.[2]
    • Superhuman Speed: Savitar is capable of moving at vast superhuman speeds, fast enough to keep up with the likes of Wally West.[3]
    • Superhuman Reflexes: Savitar possesses reflexes far greater than a normal human being. This allows him to easily react to danger and events, and perceive the world in slow motion.[1]
    • Superhuman Stamina: Savitar's body can handle the stress of moving at superhuman speeds for extended periods of time without getting tired or weak.[1]
    • Superhuman Agility: Savitar's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to superhuman levels. This allows him to easily make sharp turns and leap far distances while moving at superhuman speed.[1]
    • Speed Force Aura: A speedsters body is surrounded by a "friction cushion", which provides protection from the nastier elements of their speed, including friction, airborne particulate matter, kinetic impacts, G-Force and the like.
      • Superhuman Durability: Savitar is capable of resisting tremendous kinetic impact forces that could easily crush or kill a human, without suffering any serious external or internal injuries, making him much more durable than any human. When originally struck by lightning in his plane, Savitar survived the crash with no injuries.[1]
    • Electrokinesis: Savitar generates large amounts of electrical Speed Force energy from his body, especially when moving at super-speed. Savitar can also channel the lightning into his fist, enhancing his strikes.[4]
      • Electro-Blast: Savitar is able to project arcs of his Speed Force lightning, such as when lending his power to his minions or to objects.[5][6]
      • Speed Force Absorption: Savitar can absorb Speed Force energy in order to add to his own power.[3]
    • Enhanced Senses: The Speed Force grants Savitar enhanced senses that allow him to perceive the world at a rate attuned to his reaction speed. He is able able to sense the Speed Force, wherever it is used.[3]
    • Regeneration: Savitar is capable of using the Speed Force to metabolize his wounds almost instantly.[3][6]
    • Sharing the Force: Savitar can use the Speed Force to "lend" velocity to objects or people, such as adding momentum to a stationary object.[6] Savitar is also capable of powering his minion ninjas with his own speed.[3] This also gives him direct control over their power, as he is able to accelerate their metabolism, aging them to dust in an instant.[1]
