Scants are a humanoid species of pest-like beings who originate in the dimension known as the Scantoverse and spread throughout the multiverse to infect other creatures with terrible ideas. They are invisible to other living beings as they infect them with these ideas, and extract a substance called "idyat" that excretes from the brain when it accepts the bad ideas as good ones.
