The Scarab Necklace is one of the magical artifacts created by the Wizard Shazam.

History

Earlier history

The Scarab Necklace was created long ago by the Wizard Shazam. The necklace was used as a prison for the Wizard's wayward champion, Black Adam, who betrayed him. As a result, his power resided within the Scarab Necklace.[1] Part of the necklace is the Amulet of Isis, long ago used by another champion, the Egyptian Queen Pharaoh Hatshepsut of the 18th Dynasty. Instead of granted the power of eight gods, the Wizard facilitated her powers to originate from the Egyptian goddess, Isis.[2]

Theft by Theo Adam

A descendant of Teth-Adam, Theo Adam, once sought the necklace under the employ of Doctor Sivana alongside C.C. and Marilyn Batson, archaeologists. In an expedition to Cairo, the group had found the scarab. However, Teth-Adam freed himself by influencing his descendant to killing both archeologists and claiming it for himself before later taking over his body completely. After being defeated by Captain Marvel and his memories erased, the necklace was thought to have been later returned to Egyptian authorities.[1]

Isis

Eventually, the Scarab Necklace returned to the Rock of Eternity. Shortly after freeing the slave woman Adriana Tomaz and finding her worthy, Black Adam bequeathed her the Amulet of Isis. With it, Adrianna becomes the champion known as Isis.[2] At some point after her death and subsequent revival at the hands of Felix Faust, he gained possession of the Amulet of Isis and then the complete Scarab Necklace, using its connection to Adrianna in order to keep her subjugated and enslaved so he could use her as a sexual plaything. Using her will, she subtly alerted Black Adam who promptly had her freed. Changed from the experience of her previous death and being assaulted by Felix Faust as well as being unwittingly corrupted by Black Adam's connection to her, she crushed Faust's nether regions and claimed all the Powers of Shazam for herself.[3] The amulet disappeared when the Wizard returned, reclaiming his powers and turning both Adrianna and Black Adam to stone.[4]
